The Grants Accountant will provide:

Coordinate grants management, financial reporting, and contract matters to ensure the timely and effective implementation of project activities. The role will support building the capacity of implementing partners in budgeting, accounting, treasury, financial reporting, internal financial controls, and auditing. The Grants Accountant will ensure conformity with grants reporting requirements and compliance, validating partners' expenses on-site and reconciling within Plan International Sudan's established standards for project implementation.

 

The position involves overseeing:

The preparation of grants financial reports for management and donors, ensuring compliance with Plan policies and guidelines. This includes contributing to management and quarterly reports, monthly LEO preparation related to actual working hours, timely preparation of donor grant reports, and cost recovery processes. The Grants Accountant will maintain detailed and transparent reporting systems, review partner reports, and collaborate with internal departments to monitor donor compliance and ensure proper fund absorption. Responsibilities include preparing budgets for approved modifications, maintaining updated country grants master data, and processing financial records in line with grant regulations.

 

Essential criteria for this role include:

a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting or an equivalent qualification, with a postgraduate degree highly recommended. The ideal candidate will have experience in financial management of donor-funded programs and a strong understanding of donor compliance regulations, including GFFO, BMZ, and EU requirements. Candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience, advanced Excel skills, knowledge of financial systems and reporting, and proven use of online project management platforms such as OCHA GMS, UNPP, USAID, and BPRM. An understanding of community development from a rights-based perspective is an asset.

The physical environment for the Grants Accountant role:

It is primarily an office-based setting at the Country Office. The position may involve working at a desk with computers and relevant office equipment. There may be occasional travel to field sites and partner offices to conduct on-site reviews, training, or financial monitoring, which may expose the Grants Accountant to varying conditions, including less controlled environments that could be rural or semi-urban with limited resources.

Travel for this position is estimated at 30%, which may include visiting different project sites within the country where conditions can range from well-facilitated offices to more remote and challenging locations. The role requires adaptability to these environments and the ability to work effectively under different conditions to ensure compliance and support project activities.
