Background
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. In Indonesia, Plan International operates since 1969, and in 2017 Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (YPII/Plan Indonesia) was established as a national entity of Plan International in Indonesia.
YPII is currently implementing its Country Strategy 5 (CS 5) covering the fiscal year 2023 to 2027, where the country’s purpose is in line with the global Plan International’s Purpose “to advance children’s rights and equality for girls”. However, there has been little to no support for communications and documentations in Nagekeo and Lembata—two of YPII’s main Programme Implementation Area (PIA)s. This resulted in lack of update and knowledge about YPII’s intervention in the areas, despite high level of activities in these two areas. It also resulted in limited information for existing and interested stakeholders, despite high appetite from the stakeholders to learn more about YPII’s works.
Therefore, it is important for YPII to have its own PIA Communications Officer based in Nagekeo (with travels to Lembata) primarily to ensure proper communications and documentations support in both areas.
Job Purpose
The PIA Communications Officer will be responsible to increase, maintain and manage Yayasan Plan International Indonesia’s brand and visibility presence in the Nagekeo and Lembata. S/he will create high quality Information, Education, and Communications (IEC) materials based on stories or findings from the fields. S/he will also communicate and disseminate the story through existing Plan Indonesia channels and liaise with local media to promote Plan Indonesia’s works in the area. All of his/her work should comply with Plan Indonesia’s country brand guidelines and communications protocol. S/he should initiate the creation of exciting communication materials that reflect Plan Indonesia’s work with children and girls—and is suitable for global audiences, ranging from the media, donors and the general public, specific at PIA areas.
Dimensions of The Role
- This position reports to Media & Communication Manager, and also has the coordination line with PIA Communications Specialist, PIA Area Manager, Program Support Office Manager.
- The position has a functional relationship with Project Managers in PIA and PIA Communications Specialist to develop effective communication plan, provide technical inputs to implement the plan and monitor the quality of communication outputs in PIA.
- This position is responsible to ensure compliances with Plan Indonesia’s visibility guideline in communication materials and events produced and held in PIA.
- This position will be responsible to produce high quality IEC Materials (photos, stories, videos, and other related communications material in PIA, particularly but not limited to Nagekeo and Lembata area). The IEC materials then will be sent to Media & Communications Manager for review and approval.
- This position will liaise with the communications team to develop the IEC materials into social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, etc), mass media, or Plan Indonesia’s internal communications contents.
Accountabilities
1. Contribute to create awareness about Plan Indonesia’s brand within targeted market and demography
- Urban and middle-upper society are aware and interested abut Plan Indonesia’s programme impact and campaign in Nagekeo and Lembata
- Plan Indonesia’s campaigns, including but not limited to those conducted in PIA, are acknowledged by key partners (i.e. government, donor agencies, corporates, influencers, youth network)
- Encouraging Plan Indonesia’s PIA teams and staffs to become communicators and influencers for Girls’ rights campaign
2. Contribute in promoting YPII as a become media reference and social media trend setter on girls’ rights issues
- YPII program achievement and key messages in PIA are promoted by local media through their channels, both printed and digital.
- YPII spokespersons in PIA become the go-to expert for local media on girls’ rights issues.
- YPII key messages in PIA are amplified by Key Opinion Leaders through social media channels & public events in the area.
- Contribute to the increased reach and followers on YPII social media channels, especially from PIA.
3. Ensure high quality of IEC products to influence targeted audience based on research and program
- PIA success stories/research findings/campaign messages are developed into the right IEC products according to the targeted audience.
- IEC products from PIA are disseminated and promoted effectively through the right channels according to the targeted audience.
- All communication products from PIA are consistent with Plan International, Inc. Global Standard on Brand and associated Brand Manual.
- Conduct capacity building to share the knowledge for PIA team member in the field about how to make a simple communication product and take a simple good photograph.
- Ability to create the design for all communication product like banner, leaflet, big poster, etc. [RM1]
4. Dealing with Problems:
- The position holder is responsible to ensure the accuracy of language and tone of all types of content used in communications for both external communications.
- Responsible to ensure accuracy of message and branding of all types of BCC and IEC materials used in different project activities.
- Must have good analytical skills and adequate knowledge of activities in PIA, so the position holder can promote Plan Indonesia’s work and achievement through writing for internal and external audience.
- Needs to possess in-depth understanding of Plan Indonesia’s works in PIA, so s/he can effectively strategize communications plan and come up with need-based solution.
5. Safeguarding Children and Young People
- Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility.
- This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Social Science or English but preferably in Mass Communication/ Journalism/Public Relations from a recognized University
- At least 3 years working experience in the communications field preferably in development organizations.
- Energetic and dynamic person
- Have a strong personality to work in a team or individual in a face paced and high pressure environment
- Should be strong communicators who think creatively, are detail oriented, and able to meet the deadlines
- Strong communicators to build networking with media and community
