Working in Zambia since 1996, Plan International Zambia’s development and humanitarian programmes focus primarily on Inclusive Quality Education, Skills and Opportunities for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, Early Childhood Development and Gender Responsive Child Protection. Child protection is key in all that we do. Plan International Zambia has Programme Areas (PAs) in; Central, Luapula, and Eastern Provinces including in Lusaka, where the Country Office is located.
Plan International Zambia is seeking to hire a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Technical Advisor. The GESI Advisor will represent Plan International as part of a “Core Team” of technical experts, who will be responsible for providing technical assistance for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) 30x30 programme. The “Core Team” will lead delivery across all programme outcomes. The GESI Advisor will be responsible for ensuring that all biodiversity conservation initiatives supported by the programme are gender transformative. The role reports to the Head of Programmes to be based at Country Office in Lusaka.

Do you have what it takes to be successful in this role?
Essential
- Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Gender and Development, Development Studies, or Sociology
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience providing technical leadership for the design and implementation of development programmes focused on advancing gender equality and social inclusion.
- Experience of working on large, complex, donor-funded programmes, with results-based delivery on projects.
- Experience in engaging with stakeholders on gender issues, including proven ability to work with vulnerable groups, indigenous people, NGOs, and CSOs across Zambia.
- Experience working with/through partners, including building the technical capacity of implementing partner organisations and government staff.
Desirable:
- Extensive technical knowledge and practical experience of gender dynamics and women’s empowerment challenges in Zambia.
- Strong understanding of the contextual challenges faced by communities in Zambia, including discriminatory gender norms and gender dynamics, as well as solid working experience in the country.
- Strong public presentation skills and the ability to represent the programme’s GESI strategy to a variety of audiences, including government representatives, donors, academic institutions, civil society, community representatives, and others as required.
- Strong analytical skills and professional experience in conducting gender assessments.
- Ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines, with competing priorities and minimal supervision
