The Opportunity

Plan International Cameroon will implement a project of strengthening WASH Services and Disease Prevention to improve the wellbeing of Displaced Persons in Mayo Tsanaga, the Logone et Chari Division, Far North Region of Cameroon.  This project will enable the IDPs, returnees, out-of-camp refugees, and host populations to improve access to adequate sanitation through hygiene knowledge and practices.

The Wash Agent will assist the Project Coordinator and WATSAN Engineer in providing support in the Water supply, Sanitation Intervention and Hygiene Promotion as guided by the WASH strategies and context. The Wash Agent role is the primary community entry and community engagement role.

As Wash Agent will be responsible for ensuring community mobilization and sensitization on hygiene and sanitation education, supervising the activities of hygiene promoters, provide training on hygiene promotion, to counsel girls and adolescents, coordinate door to door sensitization and acts as a liaison between the hygiene promoters and the Project Coordinator. You will provide regular reports on program activities in the zone of intervention on weekly/monthly basis to the Project Coordinator. you will be responsible for consolidating monitoring data from the zone allocated to you. As WASH Agent will also provide support to hygiene promoters in making referrals to local protection agencies, if concerns are raised about children by beneficiaries and others humanitarian actors. you will approve any referrals made and ensure that data is collected and consolidated as required.

The Individual

We are looking to recruit a qualified candidate, with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Supply and Sanitation Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resource or Environmental Engineering, or a directly related field.   As Wash Agent, you need to have two years of professional experience in buildings design and construction, some of which related to the WASH sector in Cameroon. Have a good knowledge and understanding of established humanitarian principles and international child protection standard; Previous experience in the Logone et Chari department and knowledge of local languages will be an asset.
