We’re seeking a Child Protection Area of Responsibility Coordinator to lead and facilitate a government-led, well-coordinated, and strategic humanitarian child protection response for conflict-affected populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees. The role focuses on enabling collaboration among agencies, NGOs, and communities, while supporting state authorities in developing child protection strategies and coordination mechanisms.

The post holder will be accountable to a consortium of funding organisations, providing strategic guidance and monitoring progress against the workplan.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead coordination of child protection efforts, with emphasis on government leadership.
  • Provide strategic and technical guidance aligned with humanitarian standards and the South Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan.
  • Act as a liaison between child protection actors and duty bearers to ensure needs are addressed.
  • Promote evidence-based prioritisation and accountability in child protection programming.
  • Support localisation by enabling government co-chairing of sector working groups and ensuring strong local NGO involvement.
  • Advocate for child protection inclusion in pooled and emergency funding mechanisms.
  • Ensure child protection remains a core priority within the broader protection cluster.

 

About you:

  • Extensive experience in Child Protection in emergencies, including leadership/ programme management roles with UN/NGOs.
  • Experience in Child Protection Area of Responsibility/Cluster coordination and information management being highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure. Training in cluster coordination is an asset.
  • Strong strategic thinking, planning, and goal-setting capabilities.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, gender equality, and staff wellbeing.
  • Collaborative leadership and team development, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Adaptability and support for change management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in culturally diverse settings and influence stakeholders effectively.

Location: Juba, South Sudan. You will be required to work from Juba and at times travel to other programmatic areas in South Sudan.  This is a global search and support with relocation is available for those not currently based in this country.

Type of Role:  12 month Fixed term contract, subject to funding. This role may be extended.
