Background
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organization that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. In Indonesia, Plan International operates since 1969, and in 2017 Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia) was established as a national entity of Plan International in Indonesia. Plan Indonesia is currently implementing its Country Strategy 5 (CS 5) covering the fiscal year 2023 to 2027, where the country’s purpose is in line with the global Plan International’s Purpose “to advance children’s rights and equality for girls”. Our ambition is to enable at least 3 million girls and young women to learn (gain skills for work), lead (empower to take action on issues that matter to them), decide (have control over their own lives and bodies), and thrive (grow healthy and protected from violence). It means that we will take actions to identify and facilitate the removal of obstacles that prevent children, especially girls, and young women from enjoying their rights and participating fully in Indonesian society. This goal will be achieved by having a sustainability organisation through the organisation’s vision & strategy, implementing quality & lasting impact programs and projects, having a strong governance organisation, as well as influencing decision-makers and key stakeholders to make the required changes.
The Opportunity
The Resource Mobilization & External Relations Director is responsible for leading the strategy and execution to ensure the organisation's financial sustainability, brand enhancement, risk mitigation, and the positioning of Plan Indonesia to external stakeholders. The post holder also supports the growth of PT Kanaga Impact Indonesia as Plan Indonesia’s social enterprise.
As part of the Country Leadership Team (CLT), the post holder plays a role to support the Executive Director in ensuring good governance of the organisation, including overseeing some management objectives, building reports to the board of committee and external parties, developing organisational positioning statement, and providing strategic advice in any organisation policy, procedure, and decisions.
Key Responsibility
1. Lead the development and implementation of the resource mobilization strategy to set and achieve the Plan Indonesia’s fundraising targets and contribute to organizational financial sustainability
- Coordinate with CLT to define an investment strategy for Plan Indonesia.
- Lead the design, review, changes, and implementation of the fundraising strategy and targets.
- Assess and analyse return on investment across Plan Indonesia’s portfolio, including investments related to PT Kanaga Impact Indonesia.
2. Provide strategic direction for Brand awareness and positioning
- Provide strategic direction to maintain positive brand awareness and perception in public, media and social media, and assess the result from time to time
- Provide strategic direction on brand activation in collaboration with internal and external stakehoders including with resource mobilisation unit, Plan APAC Hub, Global HUB, other department unit, youth, media, influencers, social media companies, corporates, etc
- Build and maintain network to engage editor-in-chief of key media, key opinion leaders, prominent public figures and journalists to secure their interest and collaboration in highlighting Plan Indonesia messages in order to gain publicity and a better understanding to support the Plan’s work for promoting the rights of children.
- Authorize and oversee the work to raise Plan’s brand awareness by defining Plan’s position in critical development issues focusing on equality for girls and by developing key messages for communication to external and internal audiences (communities, partners, key influencers, government, Plan staff, media, and other stakeholders)
- Ensure effective collaboration between internal and external communications units with campaign, advocacy, resource mobilisation and other departments to achieve common goals.
3. Direct the overall management, capacity building, and well-being of the fundraising team
- Set fundraising targets, lead team performance reviews, and oversee quarterly monitoring of income against agreed targets.
- Identify capacity gaps and strengthen team capabilities to deliver fundraising objectives effectively.
- Foster a culture of innovation that encourages new approaches to fundraising and investment across the department and the wider organisation.
- Promote and safeguard the well-being, engagement, and sustainability of the fundraising team.
4. Participate in the Country Leadership Team (CLT) to provide effective leadership and decision making
- Actively participate in Country Leadership Team (CLT) meetings, contributing to policy formulation and strategic decision-making.
- Provide leadership and support to the Country Management Team (CMT) and staff to drive the achievement of organisational results.
- Ensure effective stewardship of both financial and non-financial resources in line with Plan Indonesia’s mandate and accountability standards.
- Promote organisational learning by ensuring key insights and lessons learned are relevant, captured, and effectively communicated to external audiences.
- Represent Plan Indonesia within the wider Plan International global network.
- Act as Deputy to the Executive Director when required, in the absence of the Executive Director.
- Serve as a champion and role model for Plan Indonesia’s values and organisational culture.
5. Safeguarding Children and Program Participant, GEDSI, and PSHEA
- Ensure that Resource Mobilization team members complete all required Safeguarding, GEDSI, and PSHEA inductions and refresher trainings, including both face-to-face and online modules through Plan Academy.
- Ensure that Safeguarding, GEDSI, and PSHEA principles and standards are consistently understood and applied across all Resource Mobilization and the External Communications Department’s activities and processes.
Requirements for The Role:
- A Master’s degree in Marketing Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of five (5) years of senior management experience in a relevant function within a reputable organisation.
- Proven successful track record in developing and delivering effective marketing, communications, and fundraising strategies involving diverse stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of donor trends and funding landscapes relevant to fundraising and investment.
- Demonstrated leadership characterised by transparency, integrity, and accountability.
- Willingness to travel up to 90 days per year, including travel on short notice when required.

Desirable
- Demonstrated understanding of Safeguarding, human rights, and children’s rights principles.
- Strong skills and proven experience in communications, media, or journalism, with excellent writing and editing capabilities in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.

Location: Based at CO office Jakarta with at least 10% travel to implementing countries. It is important to note that YPII currently applies a mix of Working from Home and Working from Office arrangements.
