Project Coordinator Child LENS

Date: 23 Oct 2025

Location: Jakarta, Indonesia

Company: Plan International

PROJECT BACKGROUND

YPII with funded by the UNICEF, will implement the research project with ICT Watch. The research aims to understand what makes children vulnerable to certain online risks, especially in cases involving explicit content, non-consensual sharing of private images, and online coercion. The study will look into different aspects of this issue, like how the internet environment and government actions play a role.

The focus will be on two main areas: understanding the online environment (including how the government protects against cyber threats and how technology is used) and recognizing the characteristics of children and their surroundings that make them susceptible to these risks. This research will actively involve children in the process, which can sometimes involve considering various cultural and policy perspectives. Children, 12-18 years old in Jakarta, Lombok Barat, Sukabumi and Lembata will play a vital role in this study as co-researchers, focusing on those who are active internet users. This approach aligns with a well-established model of children's involvement in research. Their insights will contribute significantly to understanding the goals of the research. The adult researchers will actively listen and engage in conversations with children to jointly explore their characteristics and their environments both online and offline.
