Humanitarian & Resilience Management Coordinator

 

In the Asia-Pacific region, Plan International work together with children, young people, supporters and partners in 15 countries including 3 countries in the Pacific that includes, Fiji, Solomon Island and Papua New Guinea to strive for a just world, where we are all equal.

Plan International has started its operations in Fiji in 2017 and work mainly as operations support hub to its programme in other pacific countries including programmes in Fiji that focuses mainly on Disaster Risk Management and Resilience Building and WASH. At present we are implementing two DRM Projects that include the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) project funded by DFAT.

 

The AHP consists of six consortiums. Plan International Australia leads one of these consortiums. The other consortiums are led by CANDO, CARE, Oxfam, Save the Children, and World Vision. The AHP is divided into two distinct components, humanitarian response / activations which occur globally (including anywhere in the Pacific), and Disaster READY which is a disaster preparedness and risk reduction multi-year program   implemented in Fiji, PNG, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Timor Leste.

 

The Disaster Risk Management Coordinator will have a specific focus on DRM and resilience projects, including the AHP. The DRM Coordinator will monitor and provide capacity-building support to the program and partner organisations to ensure quality processes and outcomes, with a particular focus on striving for best practice in child rights, gender equality and inclusion. The position is also responsible for developing new partnerships and supporting existing ones. 

 

 

 

Do you have what it takes to be successful in this role?

 

Technical Expertise and Knowledge

 

  • Understanding of development and aid issues and trends in the Solomon Islands context.
  • Experience working on disaster risk & resilience and disaster response programming in Solomon Islands.
  • Project management cycle experience and/or training
  • Ability to deliver results while working autonomously with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity-building of local NGO and/or CBO partners in Solomon Islands.
  • Experience managing stakeholder relationships and partnerships to produce results.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to produce succinct written reports.
  • Understanding of and ability to develop strong partnership relationships with government and civil society organisations.
  • Understanding of, and/or experience in, rights-based approaches and previous international experience with child rights issue
  • Tertiary level qualification in relevant field would be an advantage.
  • Experience or familiarity with AHP (or other DRM and resilience programming e.g., CAPSI, etc) would be an advantage.
  • Able to quickly learn how to use the SAP system within Plan International.

Desirable

  • Administrative and Financial management of project including office management
  • Communications and BCC product development specific to DRM and Resilience aspects.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Awareness, experience, and appreciation of building and nurturing stakeholders and partnerships.
  • Naturally passionate about the development and disaster management and climate resilient sectors in Solomon Islands.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • A self-starter who displays natural initiative and is self-motivated.
  • Strong gender orientation, aware of how disasters impact on women and girls and people with disabilities.
