Global Inclusion Specialist

Date: 3 Nov 2026

Location: Flexible, Australia

Company: Plan International

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. We believe in the power and potential of every child but know this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it is girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face. We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood and we enable children to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

For over 85 years, we have rallied other determined optimists to transform the lives of all children in more than 80 countries.

We won’t stop until we are all equal.

The Opportunity

As our Global Inclusion Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring inclusion and intersectionality are embedded across our programmes, influencing work, policies and partnerships, helping us achieve our ambition of reaching 200 million girls over the next five years.

Working within the Gender Transformative Policy and Practice (GTPP) Team, you will collaborate with colleagues across our Global Hub, Regional Hubs, Country Offices and National Organisations to strengthen inclusive, gender-transformative approaches and champion the voices and rights of those most often excluded.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced inclusion specialist who is passionate about advancing girls' rights, gender equality and social justice on a global scale. We are looking for someone who believes that lasting change happens when inclusion and intersectionality are embedded at the heart of programmes, policies and partnerships, and who is motivated by the opportunity to influence both practice and organisational culture.

You will be a relationship builder and trusted adviser, able to bring people together, navigate complexity and drive meaningful change across diverse cultural and organisational contexts. Combining strategic thinking with a practical, solutions-focused mindset, you will help ensure inclusion remains central to our ambition of creating lasting change for girls and young people worldwide.

The Role

As Global Inclusion Specialist, you will support the implementation of Plan International's Global Gender Equality and Inclusion Policy and Gender Transformative Approach, helping to ensure inclusion and intersectionality are consistently embedded across our programme and influencing work.

You will work closely with technical specialists, programme teams, networks and partners across the Federation, providing expert advice, fostering learning and collaboration, and strengthening inclusive approaches that reinforce our commitment to girls' rights and gender equality.

The role will also support and coordinate key global networks focused on gender equality, disability inclusion, LGBTQIA+ inclusion and intersectionality, ensuring shared learning, stronger collaboration and greater impact across the organisation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Champion the integration of inclusion and intersectionality across Plan International's programmes, influencing work, policies and organisational priorities, ensuring gender equality, girls' rights and inclusion are embedded throughout.
  • Provide technical leadership, advice and practical guidance to country, regional and global teams to design, deliver and monitor inclusive, gender-transformative programmes and influencing initiatives.
  • Support the development and application of tools, frameworks, standards and approaches that strengthen inclusion and enable teams to measure progress and impact.
  • Contribute to programme quality, organisational systems and planning processes to ensure they reflect Plan International's commitments to inclusion, diversity, equity and gender justice.
  • Design and facilitate learning opportunities, training programmes, communities of practice and capacity-strengthening initiatives that build understanding of inclusion and intersectionality across the Federation.
  • Develop and disseminate guidance, resources, case studies and learning materials, capturing and sharing good practice and lessons learned from across the organisation.
  • Build the capacity of colleagues, partners and internal facilitators to apply inclusive and intersectional approaches in their work.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with civil society organisations, representative groups, networks and movements working on disability inclusion, LGBTQIA+ rights, anti-racism, gender equality and broader social justice issues.
  • Collaborate with organisations led by, or representing, underrepresented communities to strengthen participation, influence and learning.
  • Represent Plan International in external forums, technical networks and sector discussions, sharing evidence, insights and good practice on inclusion and intersectionality.
  • Provide expert advice and support across programmes, research, communications, fundraising and other organisational functions.
  • Produce briefing papers, thought leadership content, key messages and case studies that promote and demonstrate Plan International's commitment to inclusion and gender equality.
  • Support organisational initiatives relating to anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion, and contribute to strengthening the systems, partnerships and ways of working that advance inclusion across the Federation.

What We're Looking For

  • Significant experience advancing inclusion, intersectionality, diversity, equity and social justice within international development, humanitarian or related sectors.
  • Strong expertise in disability inclusion, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, anti-racism and gender-transformative approaches.
  • Knowledge of international frameworks relating to child rights, girls' rights, gender equality and inclusion.
  • Understanding of the drivers of social change, power, inequality and exclusion.
  • Experience conducting gender, social exclusion and intersectional analysis and applying findings to programme design, implementation and influencing strategies.
  • Strong experience working with civil society organisations, social movements, representative groups and community-led organisations.
  • Experience building and managing partnerships that strengthen inclusion and amplify underrepresented voices.
  • Excellent facilitation, training and capacity-building skills, with the ability to create engaging learning experiences.
  • Strong relationship-building, networking and stakeholder management skills in diverse, cross-cultural environments.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, practical and accessible guidance for a range of audiences.
  • Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify opportunities and drive meaningful change.
  • Proven ability to influence, collaborate and build consensus with colleagues and partners at all levels of an organisation.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to represent organisational priorities internally and externally.
  • Experience conducting evidence-based research using feminist, participatory or inclusive methodologies is desirable.
  • Practical experience in activism, advocacy or social mobilisation would be an advantage.
  • Lived experience of non-dominant identities and communities is welcomed and valued.
