Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to Plan International’s communications, advocacy, and campaigns work and communication for fundraising in the region of Americas and the Caribbean. The Regional Communications Manager ensures that regional communication activities support country, regional and global communication priorities, media relations, advocacy, and resource mobilization campaigns.  The holder of this positions leads emergency response communications and represents Plan Regional Hub (ROAH) in Plan International’s global communication network.

Responsible for ensuring Plan International in Americas and the Caribbean is visible, engaging, respected and active on online channels, has a well-known brand, and is working towards a clearly defined set of goals that supports Plan International’s Americas Hub strategic global purpose and change journey with a strong focus on increasing local fundraising results through individual donors and corporate partnerships.

  • Definition and implementation of a regional communication strategy to Develop campaigns and communicational products for fundraising and brand awareness to promote Plan International’s communication priorities (resource mobilization, branding and advocacy),Empowering and supporting CO’s to execute fundraising (and external communication) campaigns or/and activities.
  • Strategic communications work to maximise coverage, reach and impact of global initiatives and campaigns in the region, by using media, online channels, digital communication for advocacy priorities to help raise children’s voices, document our programs, progress and milestones, inform key stakeholders and the public about our work.
  • Communicating with one voice during non-disaster times and coordinated communication during times of disaster response.  Position Plan as a leading emergency response child rights agency.
  • Advises on and manages risks related to Plan’s reputation, communication and media work in/about Americas and the Caribbean, including crisis communications and brand management.
  • Fosters strong collaboration with business development, branding and communication activities.
  • Lead Communications Network in the region and participates actively in Business Development Network.

  • In-depth knowledge of current communications issues and trends, particularly in the humanitarian and development sector (Masters Degree)
  • Good knowledge of how the media and journalists work nationally, regionally and internationally, and online.
  • Expert knowledge of current social media practices, issues and trends, particularly in the humanitarian sector, including hands-on experience of social media platforms, e.g. Twitter, Facebook and popular national platforms, preferably also of blogging, and knowledge of the web and social media landscape across the region.
  • Tech-savvy and capable of undertaking website editing and maintenance tasks and operating social media.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a managerial position in the communications/PR or journalism sector.
  • At least 3 years of experience with proven results of communications for fundraising oriented to the general public and/or at least 3 years of experience in a marketing position. (as an asset)
  • Understanding of advocacy and influencing planning, structures, and reach.
  • Proven experience to develop and implement communication and media strategies.
  • Experience in strategic planning, with a focus on outputs and deliverables (as opposed to policy and structure).
  • Understanding of and experience with promoting the value of internal communications.
  • Exceptional conceptual and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with colleagues at long distances.
  • Excellent oral and written skills, both in English and Spanish.
  • Strong command of French and Portuguese is desirable.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation and public speaking.
  • Good public speaking skills.Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Good understanding of child rights and development.Expert connector of people, resources, and ideas beyond scope of own role or team
